Tool relocation: when different cultures come together to pursue a common goal

November 2021

Have you ever wondered who is needed to relocate a smoothly running stamping tool to another production plant?

With the ramp-up of the production site in Mexico, we are relocating progressive tools not only from Europe to Mexico but also between Switzerland and Bulgaria in order to be able to respond more specifically to customer requirements locally. To ensure that the customer-specific and internal requirements are met, an interdisciplinary team consisting of quality management, supply chain management, production, tool maintenance, process designing and quality planning is required in each case. Our project manager Stoycho Stoev, who is specialized in relocation projects, plans and manages these projects within the Oskar Rüegg Group. For this reason, he was in Mexico last week to make the final preparations for an on-site customer acceptance and run-at-rate, and to discuss the relocation activities for the coming months.

In order for the customer’s acceptance to be successful, as in this case, various tasks must have been completed beforehand. These include not least preparing the article master data, transferring & adapting quality and production documentation, carrying out tool and part-specific training, material running in and running out planning or the internal test run under series conditions. If the different time zones and cultures are taken into account, this is an undertaking that should not be underestimated. Particularly because raw material procurement, transport, customs and the activities of the different production plants have to be coordinated. We gladly take on these challenges in order to be able to offer customers added value.

While from the project team’s point of view every successfully completed relocation project represents a team success, for the receiving plant this means an increase in capacity utilization and thus in value-added activities. For the outgoing plant, this primarily means regained capacity for new projects and thus new opportunities. We would be happy to take this opportunity with you.
